Ceramic tile needs to be treated gently when cleaning. No abrasive cleaning products should be used on ceramic tile surfaces. To properly clean the surface, gather these items:
- Spray bottle
- A cloth/rag
- Dish soap
- Toothbrush or scrub brush
Use a cloth to remove loose dirt and dust from the tile. Fill the spray bottle with warm water and add a drop or two of dish soap spraying the surface liberally. Use a cloth or rag to wipe down the tiles. To clean the grout, grab an old toothbrush and scrub to get it bright white again.
After getting all of the dirt, dust and food particles off of the tile, rinse the surface with water and wipe dry. To make the tiles shine even more, buff them with a soft cloth.
Avoid using vinegar or any acid based cleaners on ceramic tile. These can fade and dull the surface. Also, regular soap can leave a residue, making tiles appear dirty.
If the ceramic tile has become cracked or grout is missing, contact Refinish First. They can repair and refinish ceramic tile surfaces.
Since the kitchen has become the heart of the home, people are more likely to gather there, but that means they are stuck inside instead of being outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. That’s where the outdoor kitchen or bar comes in. They are great for entertaining during the summer because they offer food and refreshments while allowing guests to bask in the summer weather.
Outdoor kitchen areas come in many different designs and layouts depending on the functions the owner wants it to have. Most have a mini fridge and grill as the basics, since summer is all about grilling. Food prep areas are also usually present in the design.
With the temperamental Idaho weather, these outdoor kitchen areas could get damaged in the months following summer, especially the countertops and flooring. If this is the case, give Refinish First a call. They can refinish many different countertop surfaces and ceramic tile flooring that is usually found on patios.
They can create and match almost any color imaginable. They also offer a stone look in a variety of colors and textures, which would look great outdoors. They fix the chips and cracks before refinishing countertops, and will fix missing grout in tiles.
There’s still time to get the outdoor kitchen area looking brand new before summer BBQs are in full swing. Contact Refinish First today!
Tile isn’t just used for showers and floors, often it is used as a backsplash in kitchens. Backsplashes protect the wall from food splatter that can stain. They are easy to clean after cooking and also add some visual appeal to an otherwise boring part of the kitchen.
However, sometimes the backsplash no longer matches the kitchen because of a remodel. Refinish First can refinish the tile to match an existing color or create a custom color to match the new remodel. They could even make the backsplash the new accent color in the kitchen.
They can refinish tile in two days or less. The refinishing process is less messy than replacing the tile and costs less too. If it has become cracked or damaged, Refinish First can restore the tile before refinishing the surface. They also have the ability to replace the grout, which gets sealed during the refinishing process.
Because a tile backsplash is usually a small area, Refinish First can be in and out in a flash. Contact Refinish First today for your free estimate.
Ceramic tile can be used outside, although it is not the first choice of many. It is highly water absorbent, giving it a low frost resistance. It is also more likely to become worn and chip easily. Refinish First can fix and refinish ceramic tiles that haven’t held up well to outside temperature changes.
Ceramic tiles usually carry a Porcelain Enamel Institute or PEI rating of 0 to 3, but can go up to a 5. These ratings indicate where the tile should be used depending on the level of foot traffic that certain area experiences.
- Class 0: used where no foot traffic is anticipated; should only be used on walls for decoration such as backsplashes.
- Class 1: used primarily for master bathroom floors where it is anticipated shoes will not be worn.
- Class 2: used in main bathroom areas and bedrooms where slippers or soft-soled shoes will be present.
- Class 3: used in light to moderate traffic areas; any area of the house, except heavy traffic areas such as the entry way and kitchen.
- Class 4: used in areas where abrasive or dirt could be tracked; good for residential entry ways, kitchens, balconies and countertops.
- Class 5: used in the heaviest traffic areas; suggested for residential, commercial and institutional flooring.
Because many types of ceramic tile have a relatively high water absorption rating, damage is to be expected over time. Refinish First can fix chips in tile and re-grout everything to make it look like new. They offer three standard, solid colors along with more than 30 stone accent finishes. Refinish First can also create almost any custom color desired.

Whether updating a salon or starting a new salon using previously owned equipment, a great way to breathe new life into those old sinks and counters is by refinishing them. Starting and running a beauty salon can be very expensive. One way to cut down on these costs is to refinish those old countertops and sinks.
Let’s be honest, people judge a book by its cover. It’s no different when customers walk into a business. If your salon has old, dingy and chipped fixtures, customers might think that translates into an outdated hair cut or dye job. Instead of giving them the wrong impression, update your fixtures by refinishing them.
By refinishing instead of replacing, you’re cutting down on the time the salon would have to be closed during the renovation. The refinishing process takes less than a week to complete. They don’t need to tear anything apart, making clean up a breeze.
Because they aren’t tearing out the existing features it can save you up to 75 percent over the cost of replacement when you choose to refinish instead of replace. Refinishing can extend the life of your fixtures by up to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance.
If you’ve been dreaming about updating your salon, but couldn’t afford brand new fixtures or closing during the renovation, look no further. Refinish First has many different surfaces to choose from to complement your salon or give it a whole new look.

How often do you look into your kitchen sink or bathtub only to have the chipped spot be the first thing you notice? Whether the sink or tub is clean or dirty, the worn spot (or spots) draws your eye to the area in need of attention. Even though you have lovingly maintained your home, chipping occurs on porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, tile or cultured stone. After a material chips, it grows and takes more and more attention (mostly away from what you want to be thinking about).
Why not give your kitchen or bathroom the makeover it needs? A great solution is resurfacing with Refinish First. If you want to change the color or texture, this is the perfect time. The image above shows a tub resurfaced to resemble stone. If you prefer a different finish, Refinish First can match almost any color. In addition to refinishing, why not repaint which dramatically improves rooms? With resurfacing and paint, in no time at all you can create a brand new room.
A new surface will improve the longevity of the tub, sink or shower by providing layers that hold up to constant wear. If you think you or someone else in your household could benefit from a slip resistant surface, then this is the perfect time to add a nonstick surface while the rest of the area is being improved. Everyone, especially children and the elderly, is vulnerable to surfaces that are slippery. In fact, most bathroom accidents are slips, which are easily avoided with the proper surface, or if needed, a walk-in tub. Refinish First has solutions for color, texture, accessibility and safety needs when it comes to bathrooms. Ask us for a free resurfacing estimate.
