Renew by Refinishing Sinks and Bathtubs

How often do you look into your kitchen sink or bathtub only to have the chipped spot be the first thing you notice? Whether the sink or tub is clean or dirty, the worn spot (or spots) draws your eye to the area in need of attention. Even though you have lovingly maintained your home, chipping occurs on porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, tile or cultured stone. After a material chips, it grows and takes more and more attention (mostly away from what you want to be thinking about).

Why not give your kitchen or bathroom the makeover it needs? A great solution is resurfacing with Refinish First. If you want to change the color or texture, this is the perfect time. The image above shows a tub resurfaced to resemble stone. If you prefer a different finish, Refinish First can match almost any color. In addition to refinishing, why not repaint which dramatically improves rooms? With resurfacing and paint, in no time at all you can create a brand new room.

A new surface will improve the longevity of the tub, sink or shower by providing layers that hold up to constant wear. If you think you or someone else in your household could benefit from a slip resistant surface, then this is the perfect time to add a nonstick surface while the rest of the area is being improved. Everyone, especially children and the elderly, is vulnerable to surfaces that are slippery. In fact, most bathroom accidents are slips, which are easily avoided with the proper surface, or if needed, a walk-in tub. Refinish First has solutions for color, texture, accessibility and safety needs when it comes to bathrooms. Ask us for a free resurfacing estimate.

Retirement Communities Need Remodeling

All building types age and need repair. Everyone has walked into old restaurants, gyms, hospitals and churches that clearly are in need of improvement. The materials used and the craftsmanship involved in the construction greatly impact how things wear over time. Stain glass windows can look great for years, but it is not uncommon for community eating areas, bathrooms and showers to show wear sooner because of the constant use, requiring attention earlier in the life cycle.

Anywhere there is regular traffic and use, surfaces break down and need repair. Having Refinish First resurface these areas increases the time needed between fixes, which saves money. It also improves the surface’s ability to hold up against regular use. Also having surfaces refinished is far more affordable than doing a full remodel where all the surfaces are completely removed. As you can see, there are many benefits to using Refinish First surface refinishing.

If you live in a retirement community or visit one regularly, please let us know about their resurfacing needs. Often retirement community management is not aware that resurfacing is possible, much less that this service is available right here in Idaho. We love helping people create more enjoyable spaces at affordable prices.

What to Know When Planning a Bathroom Remodel

Remodeling your bathroom is wonderful in concept and certainly provides amazing results. It is also very easy to spend far more than you intend while turning what you hoped would be a problem solving project into a time consuming and expensive undertaking.

Another option instead of removing everything down to the studs is to work with what you have and add where you can. Leaving a bathtub/shower in place and resurfacing is far more affordable than removing. When you decide to remove something big like a bathtub or shower, you need to address framing whatever you hope to add back into the space which means properly installing new waterproof backers like green board and caulking which is time consuming and expensive. What you don’t see behind the new tub/shower, will cost as much or more than what you do end up seeing and using. If you want a bright, clean shower, then get it resurfaced, rather than starting over.

If you decide to do a full remodel; changing plumbing, walls or electrical wiring, you may need design assistance and may even require special permits. All of this takes time and money. It is much more affordable to leave everything in the original place and change finishes. Adding new finishes will give you the fresh new look you crave.

Another important consideration when it comes to full remodels is the demolition required. Many elements need to be removed and hauled off to the land fill. Either you take the time to remove everything or you hire someone to remove the old to make way for the new. Then, you either need to haul the debris in a trailer and pay for the disposal yourself or rent a dumpster and pay that fee. No matter how you choose to get rid of demolished materials, there are cost and time consequences.

If you have a tile floor, why not get it refinished? When Refinish First refinishes tile, all issues like cracks and chips are repaired, then coatings are placed over the top. The final product looks like new, is whatever color you want and is as strong as a new floor. When you resurface a floor, you avoid the cost of removal and get a great new floor. This is a fantastic way to save time and money.

What do you have for a bathroom counter? If it is porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, tile or cultured stone, we can resurface it in the color of your choice. This transforms the counter at a much reduced price. Maybe change the mirror, lighting and towel bar to continue the transformation.

When you decide to refinish and resurface your bathroom, you end up with a new room for a far more affordable price than replacing. Maybe you’ll want to use the money you save to buy everything you want to decorate the room and more. Why not have Refinish First provide a free resurfacing estimate and compare the price to a full remodel?

Current Trends in Toilets

You might think toilets are a pretty standard design and rarely change; however, innovation is alive and well in toilet development. Designers have gotten creative by lowering water use, offering nice options and trying unique designs.

In terms of reducing water use, in 1975 the average toilet in Japan needed 13 liters to flush. Today, on average, it takes 4.8 liters. However, the cutting edge toilets have gotten as low as 1.3 liters a flush. The Japanese have focused on the technology in toilets and certainly are leading the way but all toilet manufacturers are focusing on lowering water use.

Other toilets on the market include heated seats and temperature controlled bidets set by the user. Some are designed to be less obvious such as designs that look like chairs or cabinets when not in use.

Cool Toilet Paper Holders

You know you need them and the fact is you don’t have to choose the one that matches your towel bars. Not to say that isn’t a totally great option, because it is. However, if you feel like stepping out and being a little more adventurous, then here are a few options to check out:

Refinish Cast Iron Sinks

Cast iron really is built to last forever. Short of all the enamel being removed and exposing it to various acids or harsh cleaners, and even then, they are very resilient. As a result, when you purchase that older charming home of your dreams, refinish the claw foot tub and sink. Often the tub, because of its size draws more attention, but refinishing an old sink is amazing. The transformation is remarkable. Many people spend hundreds of dollars to get something with the charm of an old sink, but something mass produced is never the same as an original cast iron or vitreous ceramic sink. Sink refinishing is a great return on investment. Don’t just trust us. Call us for a sink refinishing estimate.
